Earlobe repair after too much bling on the ear-ring!

earlobe repair surgeryRed carpets are always studded with fashionable celebs and actual studs, the heavy kind…

While there’s no doubt that big beautiful bling is in for high class events, it might be a good idea to keep the heavy earrings in your jewelry box for ordinary days. Wearing heavy earrings too frequently can lead to a severe weakening of the earlobe, and in some cases that weakening can lead to the earring tearing completely through the lobe. This can also happen if your earring gets caught on something accidentally and tears through, but it’s actually  more common as a gradual process from wearing heavy earrings too often.

The good news is that this is a fixable problem. Earlobe repair surgery is a fairly simple procedure that can be done under local anesthesia in the office. The procedure takes about an hour for a single side, and about 90 minutes for both sides. There are usually a few very tiny sutures that are removed after the 5th or 6th day, and the lobe will be a little tender for a day or two, but other than that there is essentially no real downtime.
