He’s got a droopy eyelid!
Probably from a little too much Botox, or from Botox’s cousin Dysport, which tends to spread away from the injection site a little more than Botox.
Here’s how you can get a droopy lid from anti-wrinkle injections:
1. Too much: If the dose of Botox or Dysport is too high, it’s effect will carry over to the wrong muscles. Typically, a dose of 20-30 units is sufficient for the middle part of the brow.
2. Too close to the eyelid: If the injections are too close to the eyelid, the eyelid muscles can become paralyzed as well, which will make the lid droop.
3. Too far from the eyelid: If the injections are carried up onto the forehead, the muscle that elevates the brow can be affected, which will cause the eyelid and brow to drop more than necessary.
4. Dysport instead of Botox: In certain cases, Dysport can spread a greater distance from the injection site causing undesired effects like an eyelid droop.
The Good News
If Ricky’s droopy lid is from a Botox blooper, at least it won’t last very long. Botox typically lasts 3-4 months, so he’ll be back to his normal perfect self pretty quickly!

Lesson to be learned for all: Be sure to go to an experienced Botox Injector.
Allergan (the company that makes Botox) has Rankings for the quanitity of Botox that each Doctors office purchases. It is safe to assume, the Practitioners that inject the most Botox, have to purchase the most Botox.
These experienced injectors are rewarded with Diamond Level Rewards. The current highest achievement level is awarded The Black Diamond Level.
This made me chuckle.
I have actually seen this problem with patients who come to me. If only more people researched their doctors better.
I really like your blog and how you are using it to highlight the relevance of good research before undergoing cosmetic procedures.
You would think that he would know when too much was too much… Aw Ricky drooping lids are so 2008. 🙂
