My Oh Miley!
On Sunday this past weekend, someone sent a link to an “upskirt” photo of a celebrity from Perez Hilton’s Twitter account (“If you are easily offended, do NOT click here http://i46.tinypic.com/2rze4pv.jpg“). Don’t bother clicking on that link… the image has been removed.
You’re probably saying to yourself, “What’s the big deal? Upskirt shots show up all the time!”
And if you are thinking that, you’re totally right! They do. However, this wasn’t just any celebrity… this was the 17-year old teeny bopper sensation Miley Cyrus!

Now Perez is in BIG trouble with legal threats of distribution of child pornography and several other accusations. Perez made the grave mistake of making a statement that didn’t color himself in the best light by saying “It’s OK for Miley to be a little sexier because she’s almost 18”. Probably not the way to go with such a touchy situation Perez!
However, we think it’s ludicrous for Perez to be accused of such gravely serious offenses as child porn. it’s true… Miley is still a kid. She’s not 18, and therefore she IS technically a minor. However, does that make a paparazzi’s routine (albeit sleezy) upskirt shot “pornography”? Or just “inappropriate”? They are VERY different terms with VERY different implications, and this is one time when playing semantics is actually important.
Let’s look at the other side of coin too. Miley sure isn’t acting like a minor lately! Have you seen her recent performances? Kissing other chicks wearing outfits that Madonna herself might be a little embarrassed to wear? Some of her new stuff might even make Lady Gaga look a little tame… even though Miley “Can’t Be Tamed”!
She’s growing up a little too fast, and her fans love it. That doesn’t mean it’s right, but they love it nonetheless. Because of that, she’s getting more and more media attention, and this is the kind of stuff that happens when the paparazzi (and Perez) start paying attention to EVERYTHING!
There’s tons of unethical and unfair stuff that happens every day in Hollywood, so why would we think it would be any different for Miley as she moves up the ranks? Britney, Jessica, Christina, and Gaga would have all had this same problem if they had been as famous as Miley at such a young age (assuming that they chose to act like Miley has lately).
Perez definitely has some problems (he’s getting way too skinny for one!), but he’s surely not the “sex predator” or “child pornographer” that he’s being made out to be. He did a dumb thing, and he made a really dumb comment afterwards, but that doesn’t mean he’s a criminal. This whole situation is the result of a VERY young star rising too quickly in a world that could care less about whether she’s 17 or 27, or about her decision to conduct herself in a way that’s totally inconsistent with her age.

If this incident happened 6 months from now, we would all be blaming Miley instead of Perez. And remember, even if you thought about clicking on that link to Miley’s photo at the beginning of this post, you’re as guilty as Perez 🙂

BTW- I looove how youtube is trying to protect this pretty princess by chopping the video up so her leg-spreading, girl-kissing, untamed pop-tart self can’t gyrate any dirty thoughts in to our heads! Sexy sells and Miley’s PARENTS know it; they can achey-breaky cry themselves to the bank 😉

Miley and Perez are more on the same page than we realize. Take a look at both of their comments about this fiasco:
Miley Cyrus: “I’m really comfortable with my body, I work really hard to be fit and to know that I can wear whatever makes me most comfortable. I feel more comfortable dressing with a little less, which is just how I’ve always been,”
Perez Hilton: “It’s OK for Miley to be a little sexier because she’s almost 18.”
They’re both saying the same thing, but Miley is saying it in her polished “damage-control” voice, and Perez is saying it in his “look at my blog” voice 🙂
It looks like a bunch of you are clicking on Miley panty peeker link that Perez released… tisk, tisk, tisk 🙂
