Believe it or not, most women wish they had selected a larger size! What is the Playmate Breast Augmentation?

The Playmate Breast Augmentation that has been specially designed to place larger implant sizes without looking obviously fake. Not every woman who wants a larger size implant wants to attract a tremendous amount of attention, so the Playmate technique was created in an effort to give you the option of having a larger size while keeping the classic “girl next door” appearance. An experienced plastic surgeon will tell you what this limit is based on your measurements, but most women are candidates for the larger sizes if the Playmate technique is used. #1 Too Much Sun

It’s tough to avoid the sun when you live in Beverly Hills, but it’s definitely worth the effort! The sun will age your skin faster than almost anything, so make sure you invest in good quality foundation and makeup that have an SPF of at least 15-20. And don’t wait until you see age spots or wrinkles before you start using sunscreen. Prevention is the best medicine when it comes to anti-aging treatments. If you already use SPF, but still have some a few sun spots that you would like to get rid of, consider a series of Intense Pulse Light therapy (IPL).

#2 Too Much Partying

Partying too much leads two things: 1) dehydration, and 2) not enough sleep. Drinking dehydrates your skin and decreases its ability to heal and regenerate. Combine this with a lack of sleep, and you can literally watch yourself age years ahead of your time.

#3 Too Much Smoking

Smoking causes tremendous damage to cells in the lungs, and cells in the skin! Cigarette smoke causes skin to lose its elasticity and suppleness, and also gives it the texture and color of an old leather baseball glove. Smokers lines around the mouth are one of the hardest signs of aging to reverse, so it’s much easier to avoid them altogether by not smoking.

#4 Too Much Plastic Surgery

We all know that Lindsay has had some work done, and up until this point, she hasn’t had anything that’s made her look older… worse yes, but older, no. She’s clearly had some procedures on her nose and lips, and her cheeks also look a bit filled. Lindsay was suspected of having lip implants a few years ago before she went to jail for the first time, but it looks as though she may have had them removed. Her lips are thinner and have a different shape to them. They also look a little stiff, which may be a result of recent Restylane or Juvederm injections to plump before her party. Her nose is really beginning to look overdone too. Her tip is becoming very angular and defined, and it is obvious that she’s had a tip graft, sometimes called a shield graft for it’s shield-like shape, at some point. The bridge of her nose looks a little wider than before, and has taken on a slightly strange appearance that may be due to surgery or filler injections. Just like anything done in excess, too much plastic surgery can have the opposite effects from those that are intended, and LIndsay definitely looks like she’s aged more than 3 years between these photos.

There’s no doubt about it… Marie Osmond definitely had some work done!

I know what you’re saying… “OMG! She looks like a cross between Michael Jackson and Joan Rivers!” And guess what, I agree!

1. RHINOPLASTY: The very first thing I notice when I look at Marie is her nose! It’s eerily reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s in how small and pinched it looks. In my opinion, this rhinoplasty is a dead give away for a nosejob. Creating a subtle, natural change should always be the goal of rhinoplasty surgery so that the nose never looks out of place on someone’s face… like it does on Marie.
2. LIP ENHANCEMENT: Marie’s over-filled and odd-shaped lips are the second thing that my eyes are drawn too. I’m hoping that she has a temporary product like Juvederm or Restylane in her lips so that it will dissolve quickly (4-6 months). Her bottom lip is far too large and puffy, and her top lip has a very unnatural shape to it. The goal of lip enhancement should not be larger lips. The goals should be to increase the amount of vermillion (the pink part of the lip) that is visible, to accentuate the cupid’s bow, to create the perfect ratio between the upper and lower lips, and to smooth out any wrinkles on the surface of the lip. When done correctly, lip enhancement can be incredibly natural and quite beautiful!
3. FILLER INJECTIONS: Marie is starting to look a little putty face… kinda like Jocelyn Wildenstein and Mickey Rourke. Again, I hope she has a temporary product like Juvederm in her cheeks and smile lines so at least it will go away soon. Cheekbone enhancement is definitely one of my favorite procedures because it can produce such a wonderful change for women of just about any age… as long as it’s done carefully and correctly. I also love cheekbone enhancement because this is one area of the face where it’s usually possible to use a longer lasting filler such as Radiesse or Sculptra, which can last up to 2 years!
4. EYE SURGERY: We’re all familiar with the sexy cat-eye look, but this is a little overboard! Marie probably had a blepharoplasty procedure (eyelid surgery) and a lateral canthopexy (surgery to lift the corner of the eye), both of which look overdone. As we age, the corners of our eyes naturally descend, and a lateral canthopexy can be a great way to rejuvenate the eyes as long as the surgeon is careful not to overtighten.
5. BOTOX: It’s difficult to say for sure whether or not Marie has Botox in her After photo because of her hairstyle, but I would bet the ranch that she does! Out of all the work she had done, her Botox is the only procedure that gets a reasonable grade in my book.

The best plastic surgery doesn’t look like plastic surgery. When someone just looks better, but you don’t know exactly why, that’s the mark of quality procedures, and a quality plastic surgeon.

Well now Sofia Vergara has! HuffPo recently reported that her publicist advised her to get a breast reduction! She obviously didn’t take his advice, and now he’s her former publicist

Sofia’s curves are one of her most famous assets, and who can fault her for flaunting them. Sofia admits that she has considered the procedure in the past, but it has never been the right time to go through with it.

Breast reduction surgery has one of the highest satisfaction rates among all cosmetic procedures (along with breast augmentation), so it is always a valid option for women who might want a slimmer bust line, and Sofia may very well decide that she’s ready for it one day. But for now, I think she should be beyond proud of her famous figure!

That being said, New Jersey Housewife Dina Manzo had the procedure and loves it!

In an interview for The New York Times Style Magazine, Tea said, “I have a fear of Botox because I know it will make me look better and then I’ll be addicted.”

There’s no doubt that plastic surgery can be a bad thing when it’s done for the wrong reasons by the wrong people! Megan Fox and Heidi Montag are proof of the intense pressure that some Hollywood actresses feel to look a certain way, and also how extreme their willing to go with their looks to achieve whatever it is that they are trying to achieve.

Even though women like Megan and Heidi get the most press, they don’t represent the majority of women who seek plastic surgery to improve their appearance and turn back the hands of time… in a subtle, natural and beautiful way. And if you want to associate a picture with the phrase “subtle, natural and beautiful”, it’s all about Michelle Pfeiffer!

Michelle, 53, made a very open and honest statement about her feelings on plastic surgery in Hollywood recently. “I’m all for a little here and there — fine. It doesn’t matter to me if people have plastic surgery or they don’t, or if they do Botox,” she told the mag. “But when people don’t look themselves anymore, that’s when you go, ‘Oooh,’ and it’s kind of sad. It’s uncomfortable for us but if they’re happy with what they see in the mirror, does it matter?”

Kudos to Michelle for expressing an opinion on a topic that tends to be “taboo” nowadays, although we’re not sure why. As long as it’s done well and safely, there’s not much difference between a little Botox to freshen up your eyes and a new expensive NARS eyeshadow

What has Heather had done?

1. Botox: There’s no question that Botox has played a significant role in Heather’s wrinkle-free face. There is great evidence to suggest that having Botox BEFORE you actually have wrinkles is one of the best ways to prevent them, and that people who have regular Botox treatments may be able to use less after the 2 year mark!
2. Cheekbone Augmentation: Soft, natural volume in the cheekbone area is one of the best ways to take a several years off your face, and also one of the easiest ways to reestablish the beautiful feminine heart shape that makes women looks so gorgeous. Sculptra would be my first choice for Heather, but Fat Transfer, Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane will also work well.
3. Blepharoplasty: Just about everyone (men and women) will develop some extra saggy skin on their upper eyelids by the age of 50, and an eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty) is the best way to restore the natural eyelid crease. This makes the eyes appear more open and rested (especially in combination with Botox), and also makes it much easier to apply eyeshadow.
4. Mini-Facelift: It’s impossible to say for sure whether Heather has had a mini face or neck lift because the scars are almost invisible when the procedure is done correctly, but it’s a safe bet when you look at the beautiful neck and jaw line she has. Mini face and neck lift procedures are becoming more and more common in women (and men) in their 40′s and 50′s to re-contour the neck and jaw. This can often give the appearance of weight loss in addition to the obvious benefit of looking younger.

When I think of celebs who really rocked their pregnancies, Beyonce is certainly at the top of the list!

I don’t know any other woman who can shake it like Beyonce, and I definitely don’t know anyone who can shake like Beyonce while pregnant! What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a combination of 5 procedures:

1. Breast Augmentation.  One of the most noticeable changes after pregnancy and nursing is the atrophy of breast tissue… particularly in the upper aspect of the breast that create cleavage. Breast implants are frequently used to replace this lost tissue and restore a natural contour and cleavage line. If Beyonce loses more breast fullness and shape than she’s comfortable with, silicone breast implants are a very safe and effective way to restore lost volume and youthful perkiness.
2. Breast Lift (Mastopexy).  Pregnancy is a double whammy on the breasts. Not only does it lead to breast tissue atrophy, but it also leads to stretching and sagging. Breast implants can easily and safely restore volume to the breasts, but only a breast lift can correct the sagging.
3. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty).  Unfortunately, the breasts are not the only bodypart that sags after pregnancy. The abdomen is hit just as hard with stretch marks and sagging skin. When the abdominal skin is stretched to it’s limit over and over again through multiple pregnancies, it eventually reaches a point when it cannot bounce back (no matter how many crunches you do!).
4. Abdominal Muscle Repair (Distasis Recti Repair).  The abdominal skin isn’t the only part of the abdomen that gets stretched during pregnancy. The rectus abdominis muscles also get stretched to their max and will often times lose their ability to contract efficiently and hold the abdomen firm and flat. During the abdominoplasty portion of a Mommy Makeover, the rectus muscles can be repaired and returned to their pre-baby condition.
5. Liposuction.  Most mommies have a hard time losing the last bit of “baby weight” on their hips and thighs, and liposuction can remove that stubborn fat faster than any personal trainer!

How long is the recovery after a Mommy Makeover?

1. Immediately after surgery.  You’ll feel tired and very sore, but you will have plenty of strong pain medicine to make you comfortable. You’ll have to walk a bit hunched over because your new tummy will feel tight, and you’ll feel like taking a few naps during the day.
2. Three days after surgery.  By the third day, you’ll start to get your energy back, and you won’t need to take as many pain pills. You’ll be standing a little straighter when you walk, and everything will feel less sore.
3. One week after surgery.  Days 7-10 are usually the turning point in the recovery period. Most of your soreness will be gone, and you’ll probably be off pain pills altogether. You’ll be standing and walking straight up, and your energy levels will be much higher. Any drains and/or dressings will be removed, and you’ll have far fewer things to keep track of.
4. Two weeks after surgery.  At the 2-week mark, you’ll be able to get back into light activities like walking and low-impact exercise, but you won’t be allowed to lift anything heavier than 5lbs until week 6. You could theoretically return to work at this point (assuming that your job does not involve heavy activity), but you’ll wish you had taken a full month off (which is what we recommend)
5. One month after surgery.  You’ll most likely be back to work, and you’ll be feeling great! You may find that you get tired more quickly during the day, but this will pass as you get back into your normal routine. You’ll be loving the new clothes you had to buy, and you’ll be super happy that you had the procedure!

The results of a Mommy Makeover can be some of the most dramatic results in all of plastic surgery! Fuller perkier breasts + tighter flatter tummy = very happy moms!

Do all breast implants sag?

Yes. Just like all breasts eventually sag, all breasts with implants sag too. And the larger the implants are, the quicker they will sag, just as larger natural breasts sag faster than smaller ones. Breast implants don’t stop the natural aging process… they just reset it by a few years

Is a breast lift the only way to treat sagging?

No. There are two alternatives to provide a little lift without a “lift”:

1. LARGER IMPLANT. Replacing the implants with a slightly larger size can certainly provide some additional lift. This is a great option for women who may have always felt that their implants were too small anyway, which is actually the most common complaint after breast augmentation surgery. The downside of this option is obvious though… a larger implant will sag even faster than a smaller one.
2. INTERNAL BREAST LIFT. Some women are candidates for an internal breast lift in which your surgeon reinforces the support on the capsules that surround your implants. This procedure does not require any additional scars, which is a major benefit, but not everyone is a candidate.

What types of breast lifts are available?

1. CIRCLE LIFT. The circle lift, also called the circumareolar lift, the periareolar lift, or the donut lift, is a great procedure for breasts that have just barely begun to sag. The main advantage of the circle lift is that it only involves a scar around the outer border of the areola, which is quite inconspicuous once it’s fully healed. The main disadvantage of this technique is that it must be used conservatively. When the circle lift is used to lift the breast more than an inch or so, the scar can become widened over time.
2. LOLLI-POP LIFT. The lolli-pop lift, also called the vertical-scar or short-scar lift, is one step above the circle lift. It is meant for moderate amounts of sagging in moderate sized breasts. This technique involves a scar around the areolar border, but also adds an additional vertical scar from the areola down to the fold under the breast.
3. ANCHOR LIFT. The anchor lift, also called the Wise-pattern mastopexy, is the best technique for large breasts with a severe amount of sagging. This technique involves the greatest number of scars, but it’s the only technique that will allow for a round, shapely, perky breast when a great deal of lift is needed.
4. LASER BRA LIFT. The LaserBra Lift is a highly specialized technique that only a few surgeons across the country are qualified to perform. The scar pattern is the same as the anchor lift, but a laser is used to create an internal bra out your own tissue. This internal bra is sculpted to give you an exceptional shape that may last much longer than the other techniques because of the additional internal support.

Would it be better to just remove the implants?

Many women ask this question, and although it might be a little counterintuitive, the answer is no. Removing breast implants causes even more sagging and makes it almost impossible for your surgeon to give you a nice result. Without the implants, there is no way to replace the volume under the breast that supports and lifts it. If you remember what we discussed above, we use a larger implant when we want to lift the breast. This being the case, you can easily understand how removing the implants altogether would not be a good thing to do if we are trying to correct sagging.

Every breast will eventually sag regardless of whether or not breast implants are present. I always tell my patients that it’s a trade-off between having a saggy breast and having a perky breast with scars. In the vast majority of breast lift patients, the scars heal so well that they are hardly noticeable. That being said, the decision to have the lift is all about being ready to see those scars at all. Once you reach that point in time when you are convinced that the sagging bothers you more than the scars would, you’re ready to have the procedure.

Last month, I wrote an article about Megan Fox and her claims that she has never had Botox.

For those of you who don’t know, Megan is ultra-sensitive about the subject of Botox and plastic surgery, and in an effort to prove that she doesn’t get Botox, she posted a picture of her forehead wrinkles on her Facebook page. I analyzed the photo and wrote that I thought Megan had photoshopped her own picture because the wrinkle pattern didn’t correlate with the anatomy that I’ve seen in thousands of Botox patients in my practice or with what I’ve seen in many years of surgical training.

Well, I stand corrected! A beautiful young woman in Riverside, CA named Kristen sent me a photo of herself making forehead wrinkles that were not only similar to Megan’s, but actually much more impressive!

Firstly, kudos to Kristen! She sent me several very useful photos with several different degrees of muscle motion, and she very kindly agreed to allow me to use them for this article. I studied her photos for quite a while and I noticed that she (and probably Megan) have an incredibly interesting variation in the anatomy of their brow and forehead muscles that allows them to make these semi-circular wrinkles while the vast majority of us cannot. Their corrugator muscles (the muscles that pull the eyebrows downwards and inwards) are much more vertically oriented than normal, and this allows them to interrupt the pull of the frontalis muscle (the muscle that pulls the eyebrows upwards). This anatomic variation is quite rare, but obviously a real phenomenon.

Secondly, when it rains it pours! Since Kristen contacted me, I have seen this anatomic variation in two of my own patients, which is the very first time I’ve seen it in clinical practice even though I do Botox injections almost on a daily basis.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Kristen for her amazing photos, and for educating all of us, including me, on a very interesting and uncommon variation in anatomy. And I also want to say that I fully retract my claim that Megan Fox photoshopped her picture. That being said, that doesn’t necessarily “prove” that she doesn’t get Botox All it proves is that she has some amazing forehead and brow muscles that may or may not have ever been under the influence of Botox in the past.
